Creating a Wealth Management Firm

Many people now want to be an entrepreneur and one type of business to start is a wealth management firm, where you make profits by managing assets for the wealthy. Many former executives of large banks do this such as Gregg Hymowitz, Michael Horowitz, and Mark Fife, who left Goldman Sachs to create their own firm, Entrust Capital Inc.

Things to consider when creating a Wealth Management Firm:

Do you have the experience?

When he left Goldman Sachs to start Entrust Capital, Gregg Hymowitz was a Vice President in Goldman’s private client services group. Together with his partners, Gregg Hymowitz had received about $15 million in commissions within a year. Hymowitz had created a track record of positive portfolio management and was able to bring this experience to his new venture. Before starting wealth management independently, be sure to have the experience that will allow you to create positive returns for your clients.

Where will your clients come from?

Knowing your anticipated profit and potential clientele will help you to understand how to run your wealth management firm. Clients with greater wealth will provide access to more capital for your firm. Although it may seem ideal to go after the wealthiest clients, ensure your firm has the capability to manage large assets. Some wealth managers bring clients from their old firms, and others use word of mouth to find clientele. Either way, it is necessary to create a strategy of how you will find and retain new clientele.

What will be your investment strategy?

Once you obtain clients, there are multiple ways to go about managing their assets. A firm can focus on investing in a specific industry such as technology or pharmaceuticals, or they can take a more general approach to investing. There are numerous investment vehicles that can be used to create a positive returns for clients. It will be up to the management team to find the method that best utilizes its skills.

How Does A CEO Search Work?

Hiring a search firm to find a new CEO for a company is a wise choice, but the process can be quite long for these companies. The search firm is charged with finding someone who can lead the company for the foreseeable future, and finding someone of such importance can be quite difficult. This article explains how the search firm will carry on its business, how the CEO is presented to the client and how a company can go about its business while someone else does the search for them.

#1: What Does The Company Want?

The board of directors of any company can hire a search firm to find a new CEO who has the qualities that the business prefers. The qualities of a CEO change throughout the years, and the board of directors must choose a direction in which to go. The new CEO may need to carry on the work of the old CEO, or the new CEO may need to go in a new direction. The search firm will take these qualities into account when looking for a new candidate.

#2: How Does The Search Work?

The search is conducted by staffing professionals who will find candidates who are interested in the job. Well-known names in the industry include Dennis Carey of Korn/Ferry International. There are many executives around the country who may be interested in the job, and these people will be interviewed and vetted by the staff. The staff will complete a report for the board of directors, and the board of directors will make their decision based on this report.

The report may include just one person, but there are times when the report may include two people that the board must choose from. The staffing company gives the board people to choose from, and the board can spend a bit of time choosing. The company did very little of the search, but the search culminates in a person who is capable of leading the company. Choosing a CEO is much different from choosing other members of the executive team, and the professional staffers understand this difference.

A company that is in need of a great leader can find one of those leaders using a search firm. The search firm will find someone who is perfect for the job, and the person chosen will lead the company based on values and principles that are most important to the business. Leaving this to the search firm makes matters much simpler.

Fund Managers Rise to Regulatory and Market Challenges

Findings presented in a 2015 investment report published by SWIFT, a global financial cooperative which provides a secure information exchange network which is utilized by more than 10,800 financial institutions, raises current fund manager ongoing concerns related to regulations and collateral management.

Listed as the single largest source of expenditure, regulation issues related to know your customer, anti-money laundering and sanctions screening compliance continue to be addressed as operational pain points by 75% of surveyed managers.

European Market Infrastructure Regulation as well as Dodd Frank Act OTC derivative clearing requirements are changing managers relationships with investment banks from traditional bilateral relationships to newer trilateral relationships with clearing brokers and central counterparty clearing houses. This change has resulted in altered requirements as the clearing houses primarily require cash or that bonds meet only initial margin calls, with cash only to meet variation margin calls. Investment managers believe that this collateral optimization represents a real performance threat in terms of the delay implications of up front margin, as well as new costs in implementing the clearing requirement.

In addition to these fund issues, Hedge funds face additional challenges created by performance issues, particularly in 2014 with weighted performance nearly 8 points below the 11.4 percent gain in S&P 500, Global Market uncertainties in the oil and European currency markets as well as those issues created by new AFIMD and Dodd Frank Act Regulations.

Several analyses focus on optimistic Hedge Fund performance citing 2018 forecasts estimating a rise to $4.81 trillion from $2.63 trillion at the close of 2013. 74% of these assets are expected to be accounted for by institutions. Additionally, risk leverage strategies which previously focused on an alpha, excess return benchmark to re-categorization to beta risk, focusing on investment return streams.
Expressing its vote of confidence in hedge fund management, Saint Paul Teacher’s Retirement Fund Association allocated $55 million to Entrust Capital, Inc. in the 2nd quarter of 2014.

Formed in April 1997 in New York, New York by three former Goldman Sachs managers with approximately 125 clients and $750 million of assets (http://www.nytimes.com/1997/05/09/business/three-goldman-managers-start-a-firm.html), today employee owned EnTrust manages over 12 Billion in assets utlizing its fund of funds alternative strategies platform. Still managed by founders Michael Horowitz and Gregg Hymowitz, Entrust services high net worth individuals, pensions, profit sharing plans, charitable organizations, corporations, foundations, and endowments.

Investment funds continue to meet regulatory and market challenges in 2015.

What Happens Next At Microsoft?

No one likes to think about what happens when their fearless leaders are suddenly no longer around to guide the way. However, large corporations have to think about the line of succession when it comes to the top leadership of the brand. Often, the founder of the company is also the one who is leading the brand into the future. They tend to have a strong personality and a recognizable face. As such, they are looked upon to be the one to lead the company forever. Obviously, that is not possible though. Others must be put in place to take over when the current leader passes on.

Microsoft is currently facing the line of succession question (an article authored by Dennis Carey provides additional insight). There are a few candidates that are being considered for the job at the moment. The company is playing its cards close to the vest at the moment. They don’t want to reveal too soon who they believe should lead the company next when it is too early for them to do so. That kind of thing could give away too much information to the competition.

The debate within the company seems to be at the moment if they should stay within the company for their new leader or hire someone from another tech savvy company. In the past tech giants have taken both tactics when looking to crown a new king within the company. It has worked out well for both in both cases, so Microsoft has to try to determine which method will work out best for them.

If the company were to seek a CEO from outside the company, they may be able to locate some outside talent that they did not previously have. They may even be bringing in some talent or new ideas that are currently missing from the brand. Sometimes seeking help from the outside can be useful in terms of mixing things up and changing the action plan within the company.

CEOs are important to the direction of any and all companies as they tend to point the brand in one direction or another. It is obviously a vital decision for the company to make, and there is likely to be a lot of work that goes into it. All companies should have a succession plan in place. Even though no one wants to lose the currently leader that they have, it can happen at a moment’s notice, so it is best to be prepared.

How GPS Technology Has Changed Transportation

GPS technology was first introduced about 20 years ago. Nowadays, GPS tracking software has advanced to being web-based which allows fleet managers to retrieve access through a smartphone or PC. GPS has totally evolved from being able to just find the location of an asset or vehicle. It is now an instrumental resource for construction fleets.

In the past, before GPS technology, systems like OMEGA and LORAN were used. They operated on long wave radio signals. Having to rely on long wavelengths to make it through bad weather conditions made those antiquated types of technology not nearly as effective as the new GPS technology. To give you an idea of just how many advancements and benefits have been made possible because of GPS technology, here are some ways that it has vastly improved the standard of living today:

First of all, using GPS technology to be able to get from one location to another holds many benefits. You can get rid of all the confusing maps and experience a more simplified way of getting from point A to point B. You also eliminate the possibility of getting in an accident with less need to look through a large map that has tiny print. You can also see how many miles you need to go, find alternate routes, and locate the nearest gas stations and more with GPS technology!

GPS tracking systems have many benefits as well. It can monitor assets or vehicles 24 hours a day. This means that fleet managers can rapidly find what they need from a map or a fleet list. Having the ability to view the entirety of an operation from one map can help keep management on top of what is going on any time of the day and helps make sure projects remain on schedule eliminating delays.

With GPS technology the cost of labor has been reduced. For example, when a driver starts their shift, employers are able to know exactly how many times they stopped, their exact location and when the job was actually completed. Taking a long nap or lunch and submitting inaccurate hours have been eliminated. Now employers are able to be notified when anything occurs. This greatly reduces the need to pay overtime when it is unwarranted and helps companies grow and retain profit.

Stolen assets can also be recovered faster with GPS technology. When an asset or vehicle is stolen, the technology is able to ensure that your belongings will be recovered faster than ever before. This saves businesses valuable money and time. Additionally, it can improve work site compliance. For example, at a construction site, it can help management become aware of whether their team is following a site’s restrictions or not.

These are just some of the many ways that GPS technology has greatly improved and continues to improve the quality of life today!

What We Did Before GPS

Though many people may not remember it, there was a time before the luxury of the Global Positioning System (GPS) made our world a very different place. There was a time when folks on the road had to purchase actual paper maps to get where they were going. That, or use the constellations if they were desperate.

It’s unfortunate because the public takes it for granted. GPS was only introduced in the last few decades yet it’s hard to imagine life without it. These days, GPS has revolutionized both civilian and military life. Everything from navigation to time keeping has been made immensely more accurate and accessible to the average person in possession of a GPS capable device.

Civil sciences have surely benefited, as well. Astronomy, cartography, and meteorology have all scene innovations on account of advances in GPS technology. Even emergency services have been able to use GPS tracking to enhance their methods of operation. Finding an individual who’s in trouble is as easy as spotting a blip on a radar.

Some may argue that we’ve lost a degree of independence thanks to the modernization of GPS technology. People on the road are less inclined to sharpen their sense of direction when they can just rely on their infallible little machine that tells them where to go. Tracking aircraft’s was never as simple either. We relied on primitive radar systems before the miracle of the ADS-B network made keeping track of aircraft much simpler. If a plane ever went down, the only indication of where it might be was provided by the on-board black box and some mathematics. The aviation industry has made strides in customer safety thanks to GPS.

So now it’s time to give some respect where it’s due. We wake up in the morning at a GPS-synchronized time, consult the weather channel for information supplied in great part by GPS technology, drive around with the aid of GPS navigation, and locate the things we want or need, such as areas or addresses, with the helping hand of a GPS. The Global Positioning System has sneakily wormed it’s way into many areas of our lives and we haven’t even noticed. It has a reputation for being one of the most underestimated and under appreciated forms of technology, but we can rest assured that as long as those satellites are flying through space, GPS technology will continue to provide us with accurate and immensely helpful information that will forever change the quality of life for all people on the planet below.

Bluetooth and GPS Technology

BLUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY`S INFLUENCE IN IMPROVED LIVING STANDARDS:

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that is widely used for exchanging data over short distances, or medium distances by using short-wavelength UHF radio waves. It has indefinitely raised the living standards of its users by providing wireless control communication between a mobile phone and hands free headset, and this was one of the earliest applications which became common and popular.

This invention also provides control of Bluetooth compatible car stereo system. It provides connection between tablet and speakers such as iPad and Android devices and the remotely placed loud speakers that have Bluetooth enabled. It also gives the wireless communication with PC input and output devices such as mouse, keyboard and printer. Through the Bluetooth devices one can transfer files and contact details along with much more.

Games like Nintendo`s as well as Sony`s PlayStation 3 also uses Bluetooth for their wireless controllers. These games are quiet popular among people of all ages, they tell the story of the ease and convenience that the Bluetooth technology has brought.

GPS AND THE DIFFERENT WAYS IT USES:

GPS is the Global Positioning System which is a space-based satellite navigation system. Global Positioning System provides location and time information in all weather situations, at any given time. It is present in cell phones very commonly now a day as well as in other devices for gaining such required information.

It has been used in Astronomy and both positional and clock synchronization data is used in Astrometry. An example of this is Celestial calculations. Each GPS satellite continuously broadcasts a navigation message on L1 C/A and L2 P/Y Frequencies and the rate of this transition is at 50 bits per second. Under normal circumstances, each complete message takes 750 seconds to complete. All satellites broadcast at the same frequencies and signals are encoded. These codes use code division multiple access, this allows messages from individual satellite to be distinguished from others courtesy their unique encoding’s.

These GPS devices are used for informational purposes. This information can be about different things according to the interests of each individual that makes use of the GPS technology. It is being used in Cell phones, Tables, I-pads, Play stations, computers etc

SOME OTHER TECHNOLOGIES PEOPLE USED BEFORE GPS:

Before the GPS was invented, boats and aircraft used LORAN for navigation. The very first of this navigation technology was to use sun angle at noon for latitude. It was also used to compare local sun time at noon against an accurate clock which was chronograph. This clock was set to Greenwich Time for longitude using an accurate clock. It also transmits reading in zenith angle, and an ephemeris.

This way, it was made possible to calculate ones position by observing the position of sun or stars. Navigation and location were not found out using the same technologies. In the Pre-GPS times, location identification was done by triangulation from at least 3 ground observations which were made from the position that was known. This way the location could be traced using radio collar and single RDF receiver.

SOME EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES THAT ARE DONE WITH GPS:

It is used in automated vehicles applying location and routes for cars as well as trucks to function without a human driver and/ or to tell the driver where he is headed to. Both civilian and military cartographers use GPS, disaster relief or emergency services depend upon GPS for location and time capabilities, etc.

How Many Home Electronics You Can Use With GPS

The term “GPS,” which stands for global positioning system, is so common place today that the term is a verb. In our everyday language we are used to simply stating “I need to GPS the way to the coffee shop.” This is remarkable for a technology that simply did not exist about twenty years ago. Except for the military and complex commercial businesses and industries, GPS was beyond the reach of the common person. Now anyone with a smart phone, ipod, laptop, car, or other portable device that can contain the GPS receiver can have the capability of being able to map their way to any spot on earth or locate any item that is mated with their GPS beacon.

What some may thought was a simple spy tool is now so common, if your car does not have GPS mapping capabilities you are disappointed. It is is not only common place it is more expected than your kitchen toaster. The question today is not how many home devices can you use with GPS, the question is really how many devices in your home are already GPS compatible and you may not even know it.

If you are a heavy computer user you know that you may be frequently asked to accept or reject a request to identify your location as you use the designated application. If you are a user of Facebook you know that the whole Facebook world can identify your location to the minute and second. This can be unsettling to some people but this is still a second thought once they realize they can never be lost as long as they have a smart phone with GPS capability.

Some may be concerned with the balance between privacy issues against the ease of the new technology. GPS does afford more users “user-friendly” access to the mapping world and the days of paper maps may now be a vestige of a generation ago. However, do we really know who has the capability to monitor our location when we activate our personal GPS beacon? Many people may simply not care. They may consider this a fair trade off for the ability to track the children, pets and personal items such as their cars, boats and pieces of art.

GPS use today reminds one of the scenes from the Star Trek television shows where the captain asks his crew to track another crew on a far away planet by the communication badge, which has their own personal locator beacon. Blue tooth mating with our GPS compatible devices are now those science fiction devices realized and most people today simply cannot live without it. Some would rather cut of their arm (not really) than be a day without the capability to project voice based commands through their blue tooth to their smart devices and activate their GPS capabilities.

GPS is so common place in our every day use that basic appliances such as freezers, fridge units and oven consoles have built in GPS receivers to map directions and make your common appliances personal home work stations. Newer and smaller devices are now being marketed to place devices into luggage, briefcases, overnight delivery packages, all in an effort to maintain consistent monitoring of important items. GPS is clearly a tool that is here to stay.

Navigating the Business of Tech
