FAQ - Licences

Navicore Personal uses a copy protection and license management scheme that works with license codes that are included in the product packaging (a sticker found on the backside of the manual).

At first startup, Navicore Personal will ask for the entry of the product code. After code entry, the code will be checked. If successful, the software copy on the memory card will be bound to the physical handset the user has. Binding in this case means that the product will not work in other handsets without re-registration and thus cannot be illegally copied. Each registration and re-registration happens with an automatic SMS message that is sent on the background while the registration process takes place.

IMPORTANT: As product registration is based on license codes, it is important to retain the code. The product code does not have to be entered in most re-registration actions. However, it is needed if re-registration needs to be done due to some malfunction or due to phone repair.

In which ways can I transfer the software to new handsets?

The software license is bound to both the handset and the SIM card. The following usage scenarios are possible and allowed

  • One phone with one SIM card. This is the basic usage case and always allowed without re-registration.

  • One phone and several SIM cards (e.g. own card and employer's card). The SIM card can be changed any time and may be swapped back and forth as many times as necessary. When Navicore Personal detects a new card, it will ask whether the software should be transferred to the new SIM card. A re-registration is done at each transfer. Important: your phone must remain unchanged in this scenario.

  • Several phones and one SIM card. The program can be transferred to another phone as long as the SIM card is also transferred. When a new phone is detected, Navicore Personal will prompt for re-registration. Important: your SIM card must remain unchanged in this scenario.

  • Change of both the SIM card and the phone. If you change both your phone and your SIM card, your license must be transferred with the help of our customer support. You can find contact details to customer support from the frontpage of support section on this website.

If you have two phones with two different SIM cards these are interpreted as two navigation devices and thus require a valid license for both phone.

Is the license time limited? Will it expire at some point?

No. The license is perpetual and you can use the program as long as you want with the registration.

When is the license code needed?

You need the license code in the following cases

  • When you start the program for the first time.

  • When your handset memory has been completely emptied due to maintenance or malfunction of the phone.

  • When you want to later buy new updates such as new maps to your Navicore Personal.

I installed some other application to my phone and now my Navicore Personal fails to start even if this other program is not running. What is wrong?

The copy protection scheme uses a program library called License Manager Pro from OpenBit Ltd. This is a widely used license management software that may be present in several different applications. Some older applications may contain an old copy of License Manager Pro that is no longer compatible with Navicore Personal. Your phone should warn about the version conflict during installation, but if you don't obey this warning, it is possible to install this old version in such a way that it overwrites the new version included on Navicore Personal's memory card.

If this is the case, you can try to repair your installation by installing the latest version of License Manager Pro to your phone. To do this

  • Download the latest version as a .sis package from http://www.openbit.com/support

  • Install the lmpro.sis package to the memory card where Navicore Personal is stored.

  • Restart Navicore Personal. The software should now work without problems.

I have tried to register Navicore Personal with my handset but got several times message "Server has not responded yet, try again?"

Depending on your operator, SMS messages may take time to be relayed between the registration server and your phone. So please first wait for some time before retrying registration. Also check that your SMS settings are correct so that you can text normally. If the problem persists, try to perform registration via GPRS. The links below show how to do this with various handsets.

When I try to open Navicore Personal I get an error message saying that the application will be closed because the license code is already in use though the program worked fine previously. What can I do in this case?

The most probable reason for the error message is that you have switched your phone or SIM card multiple times in a way that has locked the program license. In order to unlock it, proceed as follows:

  • Run a program called LMTool by following the installation instructions found from the links below. This will unlock the license on your phone and allow re-registration.

  • Find your product registration code (found on the backside of your manual) and contact Navicore customer support. Customer support will ask you the necessary details to ensure your product copy is valid. If everything is correct, customer support will then allow the re-registration at Navicore license server.

  • You will receive a confirmation from Navicore customer support when re-registration is possible. Once you receive the confirmation, start Navicore Personal application and feed your product code to enter the program.
